Congratulations to Emerald Warriors

In 1854 a group of students from Dublin University (aka Trinity College) came together to form a football club to play under the rules formed by students of Rugby School, England. This made Trinity College the oldest rugby club in the world.

In 2003 a small group of men came together to form a Rugby Club that would be open to all and would be based in and built by the Gay and Lesbian community of Dublin. This rugby club became know as Emerald Warriors RFC. While a lot of people dismissed the initial hard work of the founders, even the IRFU, they never gave up. Richie Whyte, Nick Costello, Steve Gardner Nick Barniville plus a whole rouges gallery of enthusiastic volunteers, all bonded together and grew the club to be in a position to compete in official IRFU leagues.

Over the years the Emerald Warriors have had many detractors, non-believers and a lot of competitors that just would not take us seriously. However, THE WARRIORS NEVER GAVE UP!

Today that hard work paid off. Today the youngest rugby club in this country beat the oldest rugby club in the world!! The players, members, supporters and sponsors of Emerald Warriors RFC enjoy a convincing victory over the oldest rugby club in the world, the score was; Emerald Warriors RFC 27 - 10 Trinity College.

Everybody involved with the Warriors is overjoyed by this victory and would like to invite all our supporters to joins us this evening for a lot of drinks in our venue sponsor The Front Lounge on Parliament street, Dublin. If you can't be in Dublin tonight, then take a few moments and have a drink and enjoy the celebration with us.

Kind regards
