We're Going Monthly

Here's our press release about the change. Also, check out www.charmants.com for a feature they did on our swimsuit issue.

Tempe, AZ –June 24, 2009— Compete Magazine goes monthly beginning with its Third Annual Swimsuit Issue. The increase in frequency allows for more coverage of the surprisingly many GLBT community events that occur all around the world.

Of the change, Editor Buddy Early stated, “This change makes our job much easier in terms of selecting content for the magazine. Increasing our frequency means we can cover more events, bring readers more news and tell more stories”

At a time when many publications are either folding or going Web-only, Compete Magazine is taking an aggressive approach to growing by reaching more readers. “Publishing Compete more frequently will solidify awareness of our brand and give us the opportunity to stay fresh in the minds of our readers,” said Publisher David Riach.

The year’s most popular issue is the Swimsuit Issue, known for including actual GLBT athletes. This year’s photo shoot took place in Seattle, and was done by local photographer Malcolm Smith in Seattle’s Greenlake area. It includes swimwear from designers such as Low Tees, Ginch Gonch, BrazilianTrunks.com, BoyRio, N2N Bodywear and Baskit.

The change, taking effect with its July 2009 Issue, marks the publication’s second anniversary. The magazine is the world’s first sports publication targeting the gay community.

Compete provides the most comprehensive global sports information to, and for, the gay community. We promote both the importance of sports to the gay community and the gay community to sports. We connect and inspire our readers to get involved and participate in sports as athletes and fans. Compete is most well-known for it’s annual swimsuit issue, but it’s most distinguished accomplishment is being the first publication to recognize a gay Athlete of the Year. It’s publishers of Compete Magazine were runners-up for PlanetOut.com’s 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
